Article description: (description ) This attribute controls the content of the description and og:description elements. | The Social Security Act (the Act) allows those seeking benefits to designate others to represent them in their dealings with the Social Security Administration (the Agency). Such representation can be provided by a broad range of qualified persons; they need not be attorneys. However, no fee may be charged for representation without Agency approval. That is true whether or not funds are withheld to cover the fee and whether or not the decision is favorable to the claimant. The regulations do not, however, require Agency approval when the fee will be paid by an insurance company, nonprofit organization, or government agency with the claimant having no liability for any part of it. They also exempt fees sought by legal guardians or court-appointed representatives previously authorized by a court. |
