Obstruction of justice falls into the category of cover-up crimes. Other cover-up crimes include making false statements and perjury.

The Sarbanes–Oxley Act of 2002 covers obstruction of justice.

18 USC § 1503 is the main law defining obstruction of justice in the United States. This section applies to federal or grand jury proceedings.

18 USC § 1505 applies to Congressional or federal agency investigations.

18 USC § 1512 (b) applies to witness tampering.
