Facts
The construction of the Tellico Dam would endanger the life of a newly designated as endangered fish species know as snail darter (perch).
Tennessee Valley Authority has received Congressional funds to construct the dam in Tennessee.Issues
Congress had to balance the need for rural economic development versus species protection.
Judgment
The majority of the Court ruled that the dam construction must halt.
Comments
Congress had to amend the Engendered Species Act to allow exemptions for projects with significant value to the public.
